We homeopathy lovers do love a good book.
If I could only keep a limited stock of homeopathy books, these would be the ones I’d choose. Some are brilliant for beginners, some are more in-depth and all are books I’ve found genuinely useful over the years.
Here are my favourites.
This was one of the first homeopathy books I ever read, and it had a huge impact on me.
In Impossible Cure, Amy shares her son's extraordinary healing journey and how, following homeopathic treatment, he no longer met the criteria for autism. Alongside her family's story, she explores the history of homeopathy, how it works and why it deserves far more attention than it receives.
If you're completely new to homeopathy or you're looking for a book that inspires hope while explaining the principles in an accessible way, this is one I'd highly recommend.
A true classic.
If you're serious about understanding homeopathy, this is one of those books that simply belongs on your bookshelf. Kent's lectures have shaped generations of homeopaths and remain just as relevant today.
Enough said.
I absolutely love this book for understanding the personality and emotional picture of some of the major constitutional remedies.
Philip Bailey explores 35 well-known remedies in depth, bringing together their mental, emotional and physical characteristics in a way that makes each remedy feel like a recognisable human archetype rather than a list of disconnected symptoms.
It is one of those books that really helps the remedies come alive and makes them far easier to remember.
This is a brilliant book for anyone wanting to understand Ton Jansen’s Human Detox Therapy method and how homeopathy may need to adapt to the increasingly toxic world we now live in.
Ton draws on more than 30 years of clinical experience and explores the impact of pharmaceuticals, organ systems, sarcodes, nutrition and supplements, alongside his approach to prescribing remedies systematically to avoid unnecessary aggravations and achieve clearer results.
It is a fascinating book that really challenges you to think differently about the root causes of modern chronic illness and how we approach them in practice.
Yes, an entire book dedicated to one of my favourite remedies!
If you think you know Stramonium, think again. Paul Herscu takes this remedy to a completely different level, exploring its many layers and helping you understand its themes with far greater depth and clarity.
The book also introduces his approach to analysis using cycles and segments, making it a fascinating read for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of both Stramonium and modern homeopathic prescribing.
Ok, I know I had to include this one!
I wrote The Homeopath in Your Hand because it was the book I desperately wanted when I first started learning homeopathy. I wanted something practical, visual and easy to navigate, without having to wade through pages of materia medica every time someone in the family was unwell.
It's now sold thousands of copies around the world and, one of the biggest compliments I receive is hearing experienced homeopaths tell me it's become one of their go-to books too.
Whether you're completely new to homeopathy or have been prescribing for years, this is the book I reach for most often in day-to-day practice.
This is one of the true classics of homeopathic literature and a book I think every serious student of homeopathy should read.
Herbert Roberts, a student of Stuart Close, had a remarkable ability to explain the philosophy of homeopathy in a way that is both profound and surprisingly readable. It's a book that deepens your understanding of the principles behind homeopathy rather than simply teaching you more remedies.
If you're ready to move beyond the basics and really understand the art of homeopathic prescribing, this is an essential addition to your bookshelf.
The book that started it all.
Every homeopath should read The Organon at least once. It is the foundation of homeopathic philosophy and practice, laying out Hahnemann's principles in his own words.
Some parts will make complete sense straight away, others you'll come back to years later and suddenly see in a completely different light. It's one of those books that grows with you throughout your homeopathic journey.
I had to include this one too!
I created this book because I was fed up with pulling half my bookshelf apart every time I wanted to explore some of the remedies I use most frequently in practice.
It brings together 88 remedies that are often overlooked in traditional materia medica, including modern remedies, sarcodes, miasms, nosodes, isopathic remedies and the bowel nosodes, all in one place. My aim was to create the resource I wished had existed when I was studying and one that I still find incredibly useful in practice today.
If you're ready to move beyond the traditional polychrests and deepen your understanding of 21st century homeopathy, this is the book I wrote for you.
This is one of the most thought-provoking homeopathy books I've ever read.
In it, Tinus Smits explores what he called the "universal layers" of human experience, from our earliest sense of belonging and security to deeper themes such as abandonment, self-worth, abuse and our connection with the world around us. His approach offers a simple yet profound framework for understanding some of the deepest patterns we encounter in practice.
You'll never look at Rhus Tox in the same way after reading this...
This is an invaluable resource for anyone supporting a child with more complex health challenges.
Angelica combines practical prescribing advice with an extensive materia medica focused on children with conditions such as ASD, PANDAS/PANS, Lyme disease, ADHD and other immune and behavioural challenges. The remedies are organised in a way that makes them genuinely easy to navigate, alongside clear guidance on remedy selection, potencies, dosing and case management.
It's one of the books I recommend most often to parents walking this path and one I think deserves a place on every homeopath's bookshelf.
This is an absolute must.
Ian Watson explores the many different ways of prescribing homeopathically in a way that is concise, practical and genuinely useful, whether you're a student or an experienced practitioner.
One of those books that opens your mind to just how many different ways there are to approach a case.
This is exactly what the title says, a true companion to homeopathy.
Colin Griffith covers an enormous amount of ground, from philosophy and miasms to chronic disease, suppression, nosodes and the wider influences on health. It is detailed, thought-provoking and full of fascinating case examples, but still incredibly readable.
This is one of those books you can return to for years and keep finding something new.
If miasms have ever left you feeling confused, this is the book to read.
Ian Watson takes one of the most important concepts in homeopathy and explains it in a clear, practical and thoroughly modern way. He explores Hahnemann's original ideas while expanding them in a way that is easy to understand and apply in practice.
This is one of the books that really helped me get my head around miasmatic prescribing, and I still recommend it to students today.
This is the essential guide if you use, or want to explore, the Narayani remedies.
It gives you a clear and easy-to-navigate overview of the remedy range, while also covering the chakras, gems, meridians, crystals, Omkar remedies, the five elements and cranial nerves.
A really practical reference book and one you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again.
This is one of the classics of homeopathic literature and a book I think every homeopath should read.
Dorothy Shepherd was a medical doctor who became convinced of the power of homeopathy through her own experience. In this book she shares remarkable case histories that demonstrate just how profound the effects of the correctly selected remedy can be.
It's engaging, inspiring and full of clinical wisdom. If you ever need reminding why you fell in love with homeopathy in the first place, this is the book to pick up.
This is a beautiful little book that reminds us that homeopathy is about far more than simply finding the right remedy.
Drawing on both homeopathy and Taoist philosophy, Ian Watson explores the importance of the practitioner's mindset, intuition and presence, reminding us that how we practise can be just as important as what we prescribe.
It's one of those books that encourages you to slow down, reflect and reconnect with the deeper art of homeopathy.
This is such a beautiful book.
Rajan Sankaran has a remarkable way of weaving together the philosophy and practice of homeopathy, helping you see the person behind the symptoms and the deeper patterns that run through each case. It was also one of the first books to introduce the concept of remedy kingdoms, an idea that has profoundly influenced modern homeopathy.
This is a beautiful exploration of the matridonal remedies and one of the most important books on this remedy family.
Melissa Assilem brings Lac humanum, Folliculinum, Placenta humana, Vernix caseosa, Amniota humana and Umbilicus humanus vividly to life, drawing out their key themes and showing how they differ from one another and from similar remedies.
An essential book if you want to understand these profoundly human remedies.
